Introduction
In March 2025, in an article by the British daily newspaper, The Guardian, Michael Musandu (Musandu), Co-founder of Lalaland.ai (Lalaland) – an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based fashion startup in the business of making AI-generated hyper-real models – highlighted the fact that their technology enabled consumers to view more diverse AI-created models on retail websites.
Founded in Amsterdam in 2019 by computer science and AI students Musandu, Ugnius Rimša (Rimša) and Harold Smeeman (Smeeman), Lalaland utilized advanced AI to help fashion brands and retailers generate realistic models with a wide range of body types, ages, sizes, and skin tones. Analysts opined that the company enabled a more inclusive, personalized, and sustainable shopping experience for customers of fashion businesses by offering these body-inclusive avatars.
